and slightly is definitely an understatement. I went to Crete. Again. For the third time in the past five months. Little reminder is that I first went in September for vacation with my mother. Except it ended up being more than a vacation, and changed my life. The little island (which is actually not so little) flipped everything over, and keeps calling me back. And how can I not follow my heart? So I keep going back.
During my second trip I helped collect olives in the olive groves to produce some fantastic olive oil (check out the separate post about the beauty of that here)
This time, I flew over to Europe to surprise my wonderful mama for her birthday. After some time I kissed her bye bye, clicked my ruby red slippers, and woke up in Crete.
During this trip I didn’t have any important obligations, such as tanning in the sun or collecting olives, so I woke up to no alarms, drank a lot of coffee, ate a lot of amazing food (as per usual), and traveled around the whole island! And even snuck in an unplanned swim in the sea. I also played like a local, and was very silly happy to make a Greek salad in Greece. I'm a χωριάτικη pro, if I say so myself! :)
Pictures are worth a thousand words, so here are a few:
I was super excited to meet the Little Prince in Rethymno. Only my favorite book ever!
After driving to Elounda and Agios Nikolaos, we spent the night in Sitia
After being caffeinated, we continued on to Vai beach, and Ierapetra (close to where Zeus was born)
Now that I am back in NYC, I miss being in Crete so much, I don’t even have the words to describe it. Every time it is harder to leave, but every passing day gets me closer to the next time.
